About the London Assembly

Holding the Mayor to account

As the most powerful directly-elected politician in the UK, it is essential the Mayor is held publicly and democratically accountable.

The London Assembly is comprised of 25 London Assembly Members elected by Londoners to scrutinise our city’s Mayor.

Eleven of these Assembly Members represent the whole capital as Londonwide Members, while the other 14 are elected by specific constituencies. The three City Hall Greens, CarolineZack and Zoë, are all Londonwide Members.

On the Assembly, the Greens are able to investigate abuses of power, amplify the voices of marginalised Londoners, and ensure everyone in our city feels they have someone in City Hall working for them.

The Assembly has a Chair and Deputy Chair, who are each elected by Members for a one-year term in April.

In the 2024/2025 Assembly Term, the Greens are serving as the Deputy Chair of the Housing Committee (Zoë).
